The Witches Den FTU

This tutorial was written for those who have a working knowledge of PSP. Any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental.

:Supplies Needed:
PSP X3 but any version will work and Animation Shop
Scrap kit is The Witches Den which you can find here
Mask I used is WSL mask3 and can find it here
Witch craft book  Please save on your computer
Font I used Cataneo BT
Add Drop Shadow as you go with your settings at 2, 2, 65, 15

Let's Begin

Open up a new image any size you like and flood fill white

Open up window frame, element 3, resize to your liking copy and paste as new layer and center

Open up paper 3 copy and paste as new layer

On your window frame using your magic wand tool, click inside each window. To click on multiple areas hold down the shift key,

Then highlight your paper layer in your layers palette, and go to Selections-Invert-Delete- Deselect

Open up broom and copy and paste as new layer place above window see my example above

Open up the other elements including the ghost and candle and copy and paste each as new layer

On bottom layer open up paper 6 and add mask, invert mask

Type the words "Arise Spirits from Wherever you Dwell" in white, to make your text pop and stand out follow these directions: with your text layer highlighted go to Selections-Select All-Float-Defloat-Modify-Expand by 2. Then highlight the layer below your text layer on your layers palette, right click add new raster level, flood fill with black, drop shadow

Add your name and you are done

If you want to animate please follow the rest of the tut

:Animation Shop:

In PSP highlight your candle element 76 and duplicate, rename candle 1 and candle 2, hide candle 1 Okay so on the candle 2 using your free hand selection tool, settings set on free hand, circle around each flame, to select more than one area hold down your shift key, then go to Adjust-Brightness and Contrast-Brightness/Contrast and your settings should be at Brightness 40, Contrast 0,  deselect, hide this candle 2, highlight candle 1 layer

In PSP open up the ghost Element  7 and make 2 copies you should have 3 total, rename ghost 1, ghost 2, ghost 3. Hide ghost 2 and 3. Now move ghost 1 over to the left corner, erase any part of the element that is sticking out on the left side of the window. Right click, copy merged and paste as new animation in animation shop

Back in PSP close candle 1 and open candle 2
Then move ghost 1 slightly to the right moving it up just a little, right click, copy merged and paste in animation shop after current frame

Go back to PSP close candle 2 and open candle 1

Move your ghost 1 again to the right and a little up, Erase parts of the ghost that are sticking out under the frame then right click again, copy merged paste in animation shop after current frame.

Go back to PSP close candle 1 and open up candle 2

Move ghost 1, now this is where it gets tricky. Because you erased parts of your ghost, you will notice as you move your ghost over that parts of your ghost will be missing, if this is the case this is where you will use your copies you made. So open up ghost 2 and line it up with the first ghost, exactly on top of it, then close ghost 1. Move ghost 2 up and to the right just like you did with ghost 1, right click, copy merged, paste in animation shop after current frame.

Back in PSP close candle layer 2 and open up candle layer 1

Move your ghost again keeping in mine you may have to erase parts of this ghost too that are sticking out on the left and bottom of the window. Repeat the process above into animation shop alternating the candles so they flicker in animation.

When you notice that the parts of your ghost 2 are missing that is when you will line up ghost 3 with ghost 2 and then close ghost 2, and move your ghost 3 up and over to the right. Repeating the process.

Then when you get your ghost to the right of the frame, that is when you will go back into PSP and move the ghost down, then copy merged into animation shop after current frame. Then go back to PSP (don't forget to alternate your candles if you are animating them), and move your ghost down a little more, copy merged into animation shop after current frame, back into PSP and move ghost up, copy merged paste into animation shop after current frame. I had a total of 15 frames in Animation Shop. Select all frames in AS and change frame properties to 23. Keep all frames selected
Open up the witch book and it will have 10 frames, select frames 2,3,4,5,6, (to select more than one frame at a time , hold down your control key), copy and paste as into selection.

View your animation!

NOTE: I know this tut is a little tricky, it took me some time to get it right and how I wanted it, so just play around with it till you are satisfied. The end result is a really neat effect. If any of you do this tutorial send me your tag I would love to see it.
